Needs List - The Shared Ministry

Needs List - The Shared Ministry

Monetary Needs

  • $1,000 to expand current after-school tutoring program from once a week (Wednesdays) to twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays). This money would help us cover the cost of the extra meals as well as the cost of updating some of our educational materials and games.

Projected Outcome: Tutors will have a greater influence in students' academic and social progress

  • $750 would support monthly dinners for the students of the after-school program and their parents. We would like to try to improve parent involvement in both our program and our students' education. In addition to funding the cost of meals, this money would also make it possible for us to provide family activities (games, craft projects, readings, etc.) at these events.

Projected Outcome: We hope to increase parental involvement in students' schooling as well as provide a forum for families to spend time together in a caring environment with opportunities to work together

  • $500 would be a good start for our plans to begin offering parenting seminars at the Shared Ministry. We propose to hold these seminars monthly. Parenting Seminars will help build stronger, more loving, and understanding family units.

Projected Outcome: These seminars will help increase parents' understanding of their children through modeling basic parenting skills and providing information on child development. This program could also serve our community by providing parents a forum to share their difficulties with a sympathetic audience.

  • $2,000 would support our proposed expansion of summer programming. We would like to offer one, two-week long summer camp per month in the summer of 2006. In addition, we also plan to continue with our summer bible camp. This money would provide the curricula and supplies needed for these camps.

Projected Outcome: By offering more summer programs we will be able to help keep more of our community's children in a safe environment during the day. We also hope that these expanded educational opportunities will help to encourage learning, even in the summer.
